My name is Debra.
I was born in New York but raised in Puerto Rico.
Currently, I am retired from the Army Nurse Corps.
I served for 21 years taking care of soldiers and their families until I became ill.
Between my husband Felix and I, we have four wonderful children and eight grandchildren. After my retirement, I decided to do volunteer work and I continue to do so today.
I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany in July 2002. By December, I was requiring more oxygen and was transferred to Texas.
I was placed on the transplant list in October 2004 and waited approximately two months for the lung that changed our lives forever!
Words cannot express how grateful we are for someone’s decision to donate life. Because of organ donation, I was able to breathe again, see life in a different way, help people and PRAISE GOD for his Miracles.
